Look at my link that has all the official figures from Sony's game division since 1998 (when they created the separate games division). They have made $264 million to be precise.
Nintendo largely thanks to the wii have made $22 billion.
And Microsoft have p1ssed away $6.5 billion.
All these figures include software and hardware profitability.
This is the most shocking article I have ever seen.

IF I remember correctly, Sony posted a loss of 2 billion dollars in the fiscal year ending mid-2007, 6+ months after PS3 launched; a loss of 1 billion mid-2008; and a loss of 0.3 billion mid-2009; adding this quarter with be a net result or 3.6 billion. So from 4.7 billion to 3.6 billion there's a huge difference, where is it?

Vgchartz are estimating sales to consumer. All 3 companies are giving us shipped numbers, that is why there is a discrepency.

It can retire soon happy in the knowledge that Sony completed their 10 years of support for it.

The link by Rockleex should answer your questions. But baisically before the ps3 Sony's game division had made near $5 billion. However now since 1998 when Sony decided to release figures for their games separately they have now profitted $250 million. This loss of around $4.7 billion has come from 2006 - now when the ps3 has been out.

Fanboys can say what they like or spin it however but the fact is that both MS and Sony have messed up profits wise. They have lost HUGE amounts in their gaming divisions.
MS has recently turned profits but they were getting on for a $10 billion loss before that.
Sony have lost all the profits they have made on the ps1 and ps2 with the ps3. Maybe winning the format war was worth this? Only they will know.
The only business plan that has made sense...
Awesome sales for the ps3 this quarter. This year looks alot better sales wise than last year for the ps3.
For MS, they made more profits than Sony but suffered in sales.
PSP did okay but it is struggling to keep up with last year and the ps2 is still a tank obliterating its own bestselling records.
Life to date shipments:
PS2 - 140.8 million
DS - 113.48 million
Wii - 56.14 million
PSP...
MH3 sales obliterated the sales of ps2 versions of the game so no complaints there especially from Capcom.
Nintendo really needs more compelling games. It has more than people think (I'll be buying more wii games than ps3 or 360 this christmas) but they still need more. Gameswise they have been outdone by Sony this year.
Having said that it is not just Nintendo's responsibility. If you take all Sony made games for the ps3 and Nintendo made games for the wii this...

Personally I don't mind paying abit more to smaller stores who are not able to compete. There is a real problem within most industries of collusion where marketpower is gained by some stores working together on price to force others out of the market. ASDA, or any other supermarket/business would not do this out of the kindness of their heart.
Awesome for GTA fans and 360 owners, I may pick this up.

But very bad for small supermarkets who cannot avoid the prices that arise from predatory pricing schemes and thus get bullied out of the market.

kinda flopped this game, I remember this game being in lists of reason why the ps3 was better than the 360. I thought it had so much potential.
